How to take care of a new Honda scooter
May 12, 2020

… aaand you bought a new Honda scooter at Scoot Scoot

Now what?

Besides the fact that you can now enjoy driving through the streets of Tbilisi almost without a cost or any inconvenience, it is important to consider few tips from Scoot Scoot on how to take care of your scooter: Your scooter is produced from Honda factory in India. They produce one of the most economical scooters with highest endurance in the world. So, in order to enjoy driving your scooter for a long time, you need to follow some of our recommendations: Run-in period:  The engine of your scooter is new, it has only been tested twice for few minutes: first time, at the factory and second time, when we got it. When the engine is new, you have to be very careful. In general most manufacturers suggest that during the break-in period, so the first 750-1000 km, you do not use full throttle and avoid high speed. It would be best, if you turn the accelerating handle only half way- which means that you will be driving 50-70 km/hour depending on which engine your Vespa has, 110cc or 125cc. Warm-up: no matter if your scooter is new or used, the cold engine needs to be warmed up. In the trial period, it is even more important to warm up the scooter, since it requires a lot of care as mentioned before.  If your scooter has the mechanical suction make sure you pull it out when starting the engine and wait for 1-2 minutes in summer and 4-5 in winter. Only after this, you can start driving. It is important to turn this process into a habit and warm up the engine not only during the run-in period but afterwards too. If your scooter has an electric suction, just start the engine and do not start driving for 1-2 minutes in summer and 4-5 minutes in winter. After the run-in period, it is important to change the engine oil and then you can start the regular use of the scooter. This compromise is relatively small compared to how long your scooter will last after. As for other tips after the the run-in period, we recommend: Oil-change: after the run-in period, change the oil every 3000 kilometers or less. You are required to change oil by us during the warranty period. The rule is not to exceed 3000 kilometers without changing it, but if you decide to change it even more often that would be incredible. Warranty: 1) Do not peel the Scoot Scoot plomb stickers off your scooter during the warranty period. As you can imagine, there are some people, who abuse our 1 month policy. To avoid any of this, we have our plomb stickers that indicate, if the part has been changed without our knowledge. If for any reason the plomb falls off, you should contact us immediately to avoid any warranty issues and bring the scooter to get a new plomb. 2) Keep in touch- if any problems arise, contact us immediately and we will direct you, if it is safe to continue driving the scooter and help you with the issues. 3) The parts that wear out and need repair: Make sure to look at the list on your contract, you will see some recommendations on how often you should replace certain parts. Remember that you need to do this service by us during your warranty period, since we have your scooter’s original parts and we will provide the best service for you. Some other tips from us: Theft:  Do NOT leave your scooter untied during the night. The chances of being stolen in the day are much less. The thieves usually work at night. It will be the safest option to keep in the garage or a place that can be locked. (e.g private yard, porch etc.) But if you have to leave the scooter in the streets, we recommend that you tie the scooter and lock it close to a building that might have a security camera. You could also set up a security alarm system and attach it your scooter, which a lot of companies provide with cheap costs. Storing the scooter during winter If you decide to leave the scooter for a long time, especially in winter, we advise following strategies: 1) fill up the gas tank with gas, so it doesn’t get rusty. 2) take out the accumulator and store it at home. 3) cover the scooter with something to protect the filter and carburetor from dust, so you don’t have to clean them later. 4) after a long time of immobility, make sure you change the oil, run diagnostics with a  specialist, preferably by us. If you follow all of these instructions, you can be safe and free of worry. Hopefully, this is not a lot and too difficult. The main advantage of having a scooter is to make your life easier and brighter. If you follow all of these instructions, you can be safe and free of worry.
